(Penang, 5th)
PAS deputy president and Terengganu Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Samsuri
said that he sent his daughter to study Chinese at Peking University in China,
and his heart is not far away from the Chinese community.
He said that
his daughter had studied in China for one and a half years and can now listen to, read and write Chinese.
She is currently studying in New Zealand, but also plans to study at Tsinghua
University for one semester as an exchange student.
He said this
when attending an exchange meeting with the Chinese business community in Penang
today.
He said that
the country has ethnic groups with different religions and backgrounds, and the
relationship between ethnic groups must be taken care of and each ethnic group
must understand each other.
Understanding the wish list of ethnic
groups is the key to living in harmony
“It’s not
that I can get whatever I want. Every ethnic groups has its own wish list. We
must understand each other in order to live in harmony.”
He said
everyone has their own political stance and views, but the country needs good
governance.
“Studies
have shown that Americans’ trust in their government is decreasing year by
year. We don’t want this to happen in Malaysia.”
He also
mentioned that PAS’ constitution states that all ethnic groups must be catered
for, not just Malay Muslims.
“Terengganu
is the state with the largest number of Malays in the country, accounting for
97% of the state’s population, but the Chinese and Indians are also our people
and we must take care of their needs and welfare.
Participants
included Penang Zhang Clan Qinghe Hall chairman Zhang Wei Ru, deputy chairman
Datuk Zhang Hanchuan, PAS Penang chairman Mohammad Fuzi, Permatang Pauh MP
Mohammad Fawas, Selangor Kapar MP Halimah, and MCA Penang chairman Hu
Dongqiang.
Penang merchants are welcome to invest in
Terengganu
Ahmad
Samsuri attracted investment to Penang and he watlcomed Penang merchants to
develop and invest in Terengganu.
“Six of the
East Coast Rail Link stations are in Terengganu and we have a lot of industrial
land for development.”
He welcomed
Penang businesses to contact relevant agencies of the Terengganu state
government to learn about the prospects and opportunities for development and
investment in the area.
“Terengganu
people also need food, housing and factories. 75% of our income comes from oil
and gas, and the rest comes from agriculture, ports, etc.”
Hu Dongqiang: PAP says if PN wins election,
people cannot wear shorts
When Hu Dongqiang
gave his speech, he mentioned that 90% of the Chinese in Penang were afraid of
PAS, which prompted Halimah in the audience to shout, “Don’t be afraid of PAS!”.
He said that
in last year’s state electon, the DAP had only one issues, which was that if
Perikatan Nasional won, people would not be allowed to wear shorts.
“The DAP distorted
the facts. I have no problem eating Bak Kut Teh in Kelantan, but the DAP told
the Chinese that if PN wins, they won’t be able to eat pork or buy lottery
tickets.”
He said that
many young people nowadays no longer buy lottery tickets. Most of those who buy
lotter tickets are elderly people, while young people mainly play electronic
